Like many of you, we here at Lettuce Heads have been watching the news about novel coronavirus with growing concern for the well being our customers, our communities, and our families. As a small family farm, we are doing our best to use the flexibility we have to offer new options to meet the needs of the people we serve. We may not be able to provide you with absolutely everything on your grocery list, but even in March and April, we hope you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much you can do with local food – and we hope we’ll be able to save you more than one trip to the grocery store!
Since we opened for business in 2014, we have always offered a weekly direct-to-consumer program, but with the heightened need for delivery options, we are now offering home delivery and leaving our order form open on a rolling schedule. We will be delivering two times a week, Sundays and Thursdays, so in most cases you will have you order within 2 days of ordering (Orders from Wednesday-Friday at noon will be delivered Sunday, Friday afternoon to Tuesday at midnight will be delivered Thursday). On-farm pickup is also available on its usual Wednesday-to-Sunday schedule.
We are also partnering with other local and sustainable farms to offer meal kits, which will also be available for delivery or on-farm pickup. Our meal kits are designed to provide most of the items needed to create a delicious, local meal, and if other items are needed, we will note what they are and what substitutions you can make if you’re missing an ingredient.
At this time, we are offering delivery to anyone in Lorain County and/or within 25 miles of our farm. (See map below) Delivery is $5 or free with an order of more than $30. We ask that customers put a cooler on their porch or doorstep where we can place your order, along with $5 in cash for delivery (if under $30).
On-farm pickup is also available. Let us know which you would prefer in the comments field of your order form, if you choose delivery please put your address in the comments field.
Supporting our healthcare workers:
In these difficult times, it is more important than ever that we come together as a community around those on the front lines of the crisis. Lettuce Heads is offering a 20% discount to doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers fighting the Covid-19 outbreak. Call or text Kurk at (440) 396-6935 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to receive your discount code for use at checkout, and thank you for everything you are doing!
A quick note to new customers:
We offer two different ways to by produce: a la carte (meaning that you buy each item individually, same as you would at a grocery store), or via subscription (committing to getting veggies or veggies + meat/mushrooms/eggs/honey/flour/etc for 5, 10 or 15 weeks). The advantage to a subscription is a discounted price.. The advantage to purchasing a la carte is flexibility – so you have the option of going with whatever works for you!
Do you have questions about our products, our farming practices, or how we are working to get safe, healthy, local food to our community during the coronavirus outbreak? Please, do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are a small team of your neighbors and it is our privilege to answer your questions.
Other local foods resources:
We’re able to bring you a wide variety of local, sustainable food from our partnerships with Fair View Meadow Farm (pork and chicken), Schlechter Brothers (maple syrup), Elk Creek Honey, Mud Run Farms (organic flours), and most recently, Broadcap Farm (mushrooms). But there’s plenty more to explore in the world of local produce! If we’re not able to offer something you’re looking for, check out some of our favorite farms and local food vendors in the area:
Gateway Pharms (Lorain, OH): offering fermented and value-added products, tea blends, and greens
The Oberlin Food Hub (Oberlin, OH): working with a wide range of farmers to offer fruit, grains, dairy, meat, and bulk items. Now offering a consumer option during the Covid-19 crisis.
